LEED v5 places decarbonization at the heart of its vision, and this session unpacks how the updated rating system drives meaningful carbon reduction in the built environment. We’ll cover the new carbon focused framework, strategies like electrification and peak load reduction, and the expanded use of lifecycle performance metrics. Attendees will also be introduced to tools such as the carbon assessment, strategic decarbonization planning resources, and revised Platinum requirements. By the end, participants will understand how LEED v5 charts a path toward low-carbon, efficient, and resilient buildings.

Learning Objectives:

1. Understand the core updates in LEED v5, including its increased focus on carbon, resilience, and lifecycle alignment across building types.
2. Identify the major sources of building-related emissions and learn how LEED v5 introduces strategies for addressing operational and embodied carbon.
3. Explore how LEED v5 guides project teams in achieving low-carbon performance by prioritizing electrification, minimizing peak thermal loads, and improving building energy efficiency.
4. Learn how new LEED planning tools, such as the Strategic Decarbonization Plan and carbon assessment, support project teams in long-term emissions reduction.
